In the early years of my teaching career, I had the awesome privilege of teaching math to some very talented young people at Oakland School for the Arts. The school offered a longer school day to accommodate a rigorous academic and art curriculum, be it dance, theatre, production, instrumental music and graphic arts. After completing my teaching load, I would often find my way to the dance studio to watch Mr. Ray-Savage, who became like a big brother to me, in action. At times, we’d collaborate in illuminating the intersection of math and dance. More often, I would marvel at his genius as well and the movement of the lucky pupils under his tutelage.
I was so pleased to see The Game Changers Project recognize his dedication in instilling valuable lessons that go far beyond the dance studio in his pupils.
