Birmingham Pledge

Visiting a city like Birmingham steeped, if not overflowing, with a reprehensible and despicable history conjures an array of emotions.  Each emotion in that array visited me – incomprehension, how can people hate a group of people solely for the color of their skin; strength, drawn from that of the elders and ancestors and their endurance; sadness, for the numerous sacrifices made including lost lives to create a better society; sheer anger, at the vitriolic actions; aware, there’s still room for great change; and peace, because things are better.  In taking in the sites of downtown, we came across a mural proclaiming a pledge for the city on the building housing the police department.

What historical sites have you visited?  What are your thoughts on the pledge?
